Gatorade v. Water
by Julian

Have you ever personally thought is Gatorade better for you than water? Well I have, and
that’s why I did some research to try to figure out the answer.

About 40 years ago, the Gatorade Company saw that the Florida Gators basketball team
was underperforming. They believed that this was because they were drinking water. The
Gatorade Company claims that water is not enough and that you maintain a quicker pace of
speed with Gatorade than you would if you drank water (but people might put anything on their
Website to sell their products). A lot of people seem to think that Gatorade is better than water.
People mostly judge that by taste.

I asked people in my class what they preferred, and these were my results:

People believe Gatorade is better than water because it has electrolytes. Electrolytes are
little things that reenergize your body when you are sweating and stuff. I wonder what would
happen if you weighed somebody before and after they drank water. Would the person weigh
the same after drinking Gatorade? What’s the difference between water and Gatorade if they
both fill you up the same? Even though I think Gatorade is better, you have to ask yourself,
would Gatorade even exist if it weren’t for water? Gatorade is basically water with a bunch of
chemicals added.

I have a project for you, reader. Have two people with the same ability level run a
distance and when they get back to you, give one water and the other one Gatorade. Whoever
gets back to the start more quickly, that’s the product that energizes better (Or they were racing
or you messed up your research).

My personal opinion is that they are the same (even though I prefer Gatorade) because
they both give me cramps and they both give me energy. But the main reason why I like
Gatorade better is because it has taste.
