Prairie Falcons
by Nick

Hi. My name is Nick and I’m going tell you about falcons. The first place where a falcon
was found was in Mexico near Central America. Prairie falcons live in canyons and grasslands
and other habitats. Prairie falcons are very good at hunting, though they only hunt during the
day. Prairie falcons hunt only insects and reptiles. They can only catch their food if they are
doing a swipe from the air and coming down hard to take their prey swiftly. In a way, falcons
hunt like raptors, since they both use their talons to rip pieces of meat off of there prey. Of
course, raptors have better smelling capabilities than humans and falcons. A raptor can smell a
jack rabbit 2 miles away, but that’s another story.

Falcons reproduce by laying somewhere between 3 to 6 eggs, which take from 3 to 5
weeks to open. These baby falcons will leave their nest after 5 to 6 weeks. Falcons are born with
colors that allow them to blend in with the trees and their own nest. Falcons are typically brown,
black, and red.

   Well that’s my story. Bye.
