What is Eczema?
by Courtney (aka Coco)

Do you know what is eczema is? I bet you don’t unless you have it. Well I’m about to tell you about it. Let’s start with a definition. Eczema is a disease that causes extremely dry irritated skin. Eczema can occur on any part of the body. The texture of eczema is like rough leather. Many people found out that eczema usually clears with age. Eczema does not limit you to anything. Over 10,000 people in the U.S. have eczema. Many people ask if it is the same as atomic disease. Well they’re similar, but they’re not the same. Here’s how: Atomic disease comes from the immune system while eczema comes from allergies. Most of the symptoms are the same. About 10 to 20 percent of all infants have atomic disease or eczema.

Most people wonder if eczema is contagious. Well it’s not. Studies show that eczema is developed as a baby or as you go through childhood. A common asked question is what causes the itch? The answer to that question is maybe detergents, allergies, and dust mites, it being too hot or too sweaty, or certain perfumes. There is no cure for Eczema, but you can put lotions and skin treatments on it as long as it does not dry or irritate the skin. There are some ways to try to prevent eczema like carrying a towel to wipe your head. You can also try to avoid any allergies. The last way to try to prevent eczema is to keep your body moisturized, clean, and fresh. Also remember to wash your hands before eating and after touching dirty surfaces. If you don’t have eczema or atomic disease, then consider yourself lucky because you don’t have to go through the itch. But be careful. You can still get either. I hope you enjoyed the article and learned some things.
